The Sonning Fluted TV Unit

The Sonning is a 180cm TV unit with an oval-ended top — the surface curves at both ends rather than meeting a square corner. The front face divides into three sections: two outer columns with sliding doors embossed with vertical fluting, and a centre panel inset with imitation rattan mesh. The rattan panel is plastic cane-grid — not natural rattan — pressed to replicate the weave grid and described by the manufacturer as breathable and easy to clean.

The MDF carcass runs throughout and carries a matte anti-fingerprint surface that wipes clean. The eight solid wood legs are pale-toned and slender; the four central legs carry height-adjustment knobs that compensate 2–3cm for uneven floors. Non-slip felt pads sit under the corner legs. Gold round button handles are fitted to the sliding door panels and the centre drawer.

The fluting on the outer doors is surface embossing — three-dimensional raised lines running top to bottom across the door face, creating vertical shadow lines without milling into the material. The sliding door mechanism means no swing clearance is needed in front of the unit.

At 40cm tall, the Sonning sits lower than most TV units. It works best beneath a wall-mounted screen or in rooms where the seated viewing position is lower. Maximum top load is 30kg. Assembly is approximately 20 minutes from pre-assembled components.
