    The Selsey is a two-piece outdoor daybed set — a wide loveseat with a 5-level adjustable backrest and a matching footstool that extends the seating surface to a full-length lying position. The two pieces function independently or connect flush to create a single continuous surface at 130 × 124cm.

    The backrest adjusts between 90° and 180° across five fixed positions (90°, 115°, 130°, 145°, 165°) using a metal ratchet mechanism at the rear. At 165° it functions as a reclined reading position; flat at 180° it becomes a daybed. Each armrest carries a fold-up side tray built into the armrest panel — a small flat surface for a drink or book, stored flush when not in use.

    The footstool sits at the same 32cm seat height as the sofa, so the cushion surfaces meet level when pushed together. The interior of the footstool is accessible through a hinged lid, providing a weather-protected storage compartment for cushions or garden accessories when not in use.

    Both pieces are built on steel frames wrapped in multi-tone brown PE rattan wicker. The rattan carries a dark chocolate base with lighter strand variation across the surface — a characteristic of the variegated weave used. The PE rattan is UV-stabilised and weather-resistant. Seat, back, and footstool cushions are included; covers zip off for machine washing.

    A daybed is either a sofa that becomes a bed or a bed that passes as a sofa. The Selsey is both — a two-piece PE rattan set with a loveseat and a storage footstool that connects to form a 130x124cm daybed when the backrest lays flat.

    The backrest adjusts across five positions between 90 and 180 degrees — from upright sofa to fully flat daybed — without tools or reconfiguring the cushions. The footstool has internal storage accessible from the top and connects directly to the loveseat to complete the daybed platform. The frame is steel; the rattan wicker is UV-resistant PE. Maximum load is 320kg on the sofa section and 160kg on the footstool, rated independently. The set weighs 31kg and requires assembly.

    Returns & Refunds

    You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return, with no need to give a reason. Items must be returned unused, unassembled, undamaged, and in their original packaging with proof of purchase. Please contact us at cs@rattanandrefined.co.uk before sending anything back — returns sent without prior approval cannot be processed.
    If you are returning an item because you've changed your mind, return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer. However, if your item arrived damaged, faulty, or incorrect, we will arrange and cover collection at no cost to you.
    Please email us at cs@rattanandrefined.co.uk as soon as possible with your order number and clear photos of the damage. We will assess the situation and arrange a replacement, exchange, or full refund — including free collection of the damaged item.
    Once your returned item has been received and inspected, we will notify you by email. If approved, your refund is processed to your original payment method. Depending on your bank or payment provider, refunds typically appear within 7 to 14 working days of us receiving the return.

    Products & Materials

    Natural rattan is sourced from the rattan palm and brings organic warmth and texture to an interior. Tonal variation between pieces is a natural characteristic, not a defect. It is best suited to indoor environments, away from prolonged moisture or direct sunlight.

    Synthetic (PE) rattan is a premium polyethylene weave engineered to resist UV, moisture, and heavy use without fading or warping. It has all the refinement of natural rattan and is suitable for both indoors and outdoors. Each product listing specifies which material it uses.
    Only pieces specifically described as suitable for outdoor use in their product listing should be placed outside. These are made with synthetic PE rattan, which is weatherproof and UV-resistant. Natural rattan pieces are indoor only — prolonged exposure to moisture, rain, or direct sunlight will cause them to weaken and deteriorate.
    Both natural and synthetic rattan wipe clean with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. For natural rattan, keep it away from excess moisture and store indoors. For synthetic rattan garden pieces, a gentle clean with soapy water and a soft brush is ideal. Rattan naturally improves in character over time with light use.
    Most pieces require light assembly. Each product listing specifies whether assembly is required and how involved it is. Clear, illustrated instructions are included in every box. No specialist tools are needed — a standard screwdriver is sufficient for most items. Assembly details are also listed in the Dimensions & Materials section of each product page.
    We photograph our pieces in natural light to represent colour and texture as accurately as possible. For natural rattan and wood, tonal variation is an inherent characteristic of the material — no two pieces are identical, and subtle differences in grain or weave are a sign of authenticity, not a defect. Screen calibration can also affect how colours appear, but we aim to represent every piece honestly.
