    Design details

    The Rosemead is a freestanding teardrop-shaped egg chair — a 156cm tall woven shell on four outward-splayed metal legs, built for one person to sit fully enclosed within. The shell is woven in an open-lattice PE rattan wicker pattern: horizontal strands run across the structure with visible gaps between rows, so the chair reads as an open basket rather than a solid wall. The rattan is grey in tone with slight variation between individual strands.

    The metal frame runs continuously from the shell structure through into the four legs, all wrapped in the same PE rattan wicker. Adjustable feet pads on each leg allow the chair to sit level on uneven surfaces — patio, decking, or grass.

    The cushion set is designed for the interior shell: a large back pad, two side bolsters, and a head pillow at the top of the opening. All four pieces use soft polyester fabric with a water-resistant finish and tie to the frame via fabric straps. The inner width of 101cm is wide enough for an adult to sit with legs folded or extended to one side. Maximum load is 160kg.

    Freestanding egg chairs usually get placed in a corner and treated as a statement piece that is more looked at than sat in. The Rosemead changes that equation — a teardrop-shaped PE rattan shell on a four-leg metal base, 156cm tall and 101cm wide, with a four-piece cushion set that makes it as comfortable as it is visible.

    The shell is woven from open-lattice grey PE rattan — the gaps in the weave allow air to move through the seat, which matters in warm weather. The four-piece cushion set includes a seat pad, back cushion, and two side cushions; the covers are water-resistant polyester with zips for removal. The base is a four-leg metal frame with adjustable feet pads for uneven surfaces. The blush cushion tone reads as a warm off-white in natural light. Maximum load is 160kg. Seat height is 38cm.

    Returns & Refunds

    You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return, with no need to give a reason. Items must be returned unused, unassembled, undamaged, and in their original packaging with proof of purchase. Please contact us at cs@rattanandrefined.co.uk before sending anything back — returns sent without prior approval cannot be processed.
    If you are returning an item because you've changed your mind, return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer. However, if your item arrived damaged, faulty, or incorrect, we will arrange and cover collection at no cost to you.
    Please email us at cs@rattanandrefined.co.uk as soon as possible with your order number and clear photos of the damage. We will assess the situation and arrange a replacement, exchange, or full refund — including free collection of the damaged item.
    Once your returned item has been received and inspected, we will notify you by email. If approved, your refund is processed to your original payment method. Depending on your bank or payment provider, refunds typically appear within 7 to 14 working days of us receiving the return.

    Products & Materials

    Natural rattan is sourced from the rattan palm and brings organic warmth and texture to an interior. Tonal variation between pieces is a natural characteristic, not a defect. It is best suited to indoor environments, away from prolonged moisture or direct sunlight.

    Synthetic (PE) rattan is a premium polyethylene weave engineered to resist UV, moisture, and heavy use without fading or warping. It has all the refinement of natural rattan and is suitable for both indoors and outdoors. Each product listing specifies which material it uses.
    Only pieces specifically described as suitable for outdoor use in their product listing should be placed outside. These are made with synthetic PE rattan, which is weatherproof and UV-resistant. Natural rattan pieces are indoor only — prolonged exposure to moisture, rain, or direct sunlight will cause them to weaken and deteriorate.
    Both natural and synthetic rattan wipe clean with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. For natural rattan, keep it away from excess moisture and store indoors. For synthetic rattan garden pieces, a gentle clean with soapy water and a soft brush is ideal. Rattan naturally improves in character over time with light use.
    Most pieces require light assembly. Each product listing specifies whether assembly is required and how involved it is. Clear, illustrated instructions are included in every box. No specialist tools are needed — a standard screwdriver is sufficient for most items. Assembly details are also listed in the Dimensions & Materials section of each product page.
    We photograph our pieces in natural light to represent colour and texture as accurately as possible. For natural rattan and wood, tonal variation is an inherent characteristic of the material — no two pieces are identical, and subtle differences in grain or weave are a sign of authenticity, not a defect. Screen calibration can also affect how colours appear, but we aim to represent every piece honestly.
