    Design details

    The Ashdown is a freestanding sideboard with a two-door, three-drawer configuration. The body is chipboard and MDF with a light oak grain veneer — a stable, warp-resistant board construction suited to centrally heated interiors. Four legs form a crossed H-brace metal frame in a brass-tone finish, raising the cabinet 17cm above floor level for easier cleaning underneath.

    Each door features a large oval panel inset with faux rattan mesh — a pressed cane-style grid weave set into the door face. The mesh panels are decorative; the doors are solid-backed. The contrast between the warm grid texture and the smooth wood-grain veneer is the defining visual detail of this piece. Door handles and the three drawer pulls are T-bar metal in the same brass tone as the leg frame.

    The three central drawers run on metal slides. Inside each door compartment, one adjustable shelf provides three height settings at 7cm intervals — adaptable to different item depths. The piece ships in two packages. A centre front leg is height-adjustable with a floor-protection pad to compensate for uneven surfaces, and an anti-tilt fitting is included for households with children or pets.

    Most sideboards commit to being either decorative or functional. The Ashdown manages both — a light oak grain veneer cabinet with faux rattan mesh oval door panels, three central drawers, and brass-tone metal legs that position it at a height that works in living rooms and dining rooms equally.

    The two oval door panels are faux rattan mesh — the pattern is tight and regular, which reads as woven from across the room without the natural variation or fragility of real rattan in a cabinet door. The three central drawers sit between the two door sections and run to the full cabinet depth. Each door section has an adjustable shelf inside that accommodates items of different heights. An anti-tilt device is included. The legs and handles are brass-tone metal, not plated plastic — the finish holds under daily use.

    Returns & Refunds

    You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return, with no need to give a reason. Items must be returned unused, unassembled, undamaged, and in their original packaging with proof of purchase. Please contact us at cs@rattanandrefined.co.uk before sending anything back — returns sent without prior approval cannot be processed.
    If you are returning an item because you've changed your mind, return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer. However, if your item arrived damaged, faulty, or incorrect, we will arrange and cover collection at no cost to you.
    Please email us at cs@rattanandrefined.co.uk as soon as possible with your order number and clear photos of the damage. We will assess the situation and arrange a replacement, exchange, or full refund — including free collection of the damaged item.
    Once your returned item has been received and inspected, we will notify you by email. If approved, your refund is processed to your original payment method. Depending on your bank or payment provider, refunds typically appear within 7 to 14 working days of us receiving the return.

    Products & Materials

    Natural rattan is sourced from the rattan palm and brings organic warmth and texture to an interior. Tonal variation between pieces is a natural characteristic, not a defect. It is best suited to indoor environments, away from prolonged moisture or direct sunlight.

    Synthetic (PE) rattan is a premium polyethylene weave engineered to resist UV, moisture, and heavy use without fading or warping. It has all the refinement of natural rattan and is suitable for both indoors and outdoors. Each product listing specifies which material it uses.
    Only pieces specifically described as suitable for outdoor use in their product listing should be placed outside. These are made with synthetic PE rattan, which is weatherproof and UV-resistant. Natural rattan pieces are indoor only — prolonged exposure to moisture, rain, or direct sunlight will cause them to weaken and deteriorate.
    Both natural and synthetic rattan wipe clean with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. For natural rattan, keep it away from excess moisture and store indoors. For synthetic rattan garden pieces, a gentle clean with soapy water and a soft brush is ideal. Rattan naturally improves in character over time with light use.
    Most pieces require light assembly. Each product listing specifies whether assembly is required and how involved it is. Clear, illustrated instructions are included in every box. No specialist tools are needed — a standard screwdriver is sufficient for most items. Assembly details are also listed in the Dimensions & Materials section of each product page.
    We photograph our pieces in natural light to represent colour and texture as accurately as possible. For natural rattan and wood, tonal variation is an inherent characteristic of the material — no two pieces are identical, and subtle differences in grain or weave are a sign of authenticity, not a defect. Screen calibration can also affect how colours appear, but we aim to represent every piece honestly.
