The Thornbury is a bedside nightstand with a cane-front drawer and open lower shelf. The body is a light-tone wooden frame with a single drawer — the drawer front is woven cane panel in a fine hexagonal or cross-weave mesh, giving the piece its character without complicating the form.

The open lower shelf sits below the drawer at approximately 15cm from the floor, usable for books or a basket. The top surface measures 40 × 35cm — enough for a lamp, a glass, and a small device. Drawer interior is approximately 30 × 28 × 10cm.

Just be aware the drawer is fairly shallow. Fine for a book, glasses and a charger, not much more. Looks lovely though.

A closer look at The Thornbury Cane Nightstand

Most bedside tables get one of two things wrong — they are either too tall, too wide, or they have a front that fights with the rest of the room. The Thornbury avoids all three — a light wood frame with a cane-front drawer that is warm without being loud, at a height and depth that works beside most beds without demanding attention.

The drawer interior fits the usual bedside essentials. The open shelf below is the right height for a paperback or a small basket. The top surface fits a lamp and a glass without feeling crowded.

Orders are dispatched within 1 working day (Monday to Friday, excluding UK bank holidays). Once dispatched, delivery takes 1–3 working days. The estimated total time from placing your order is 2 to 4 working days. Orders placed before 3:00 PM (GMT) on a working day are processed the same day.

Returns & Refunds

You have 30 days from the date you receive your order to request a return, with no need to give a reason. Items must be returned unused, unassembled, undamaged, and in their original packaging with proof of purchase. Please contact us at cs@rattanandrefined.co.uk before sending anything back — returns sent without prior approval cannot be processed.
If you are returning an item because you've changed your mind, return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer. However, if your item arrived damaged, faulty, or incorrect, we will arrange and cover collection at no cost to you.
Please email us at cs@rattanandrefined.co.uk as soon as possible with your order number and clear photos of the damage. We will assess the situation and arrange a replacement, exchange, or full refund — including free collection of the damaged item.
Once your returned item has been received and inspected, we will notify you by email. If approved, your refund is processed to your original payment method. Depending on your bank or payment provider, refunds typically appear within 7 to 14 working days of us receiving the return.

Products & Materials

Natural rattan is sourced from the rattan palm and brings organic warmth and texture to an interior. Tonal variation between pieces is a natural characteristic, not a defect. It is best suited to indoor environments, away from prolonged moisture or direct sunlight.

Synthetic (PE) rattan is a premium polyethylene weave engineered to resist UV, moisture, and heavy use without fading or warping. It has all the refinement of natural rattan and is suitable for both indoors and outdoors. Each product listing specifies which material it uses.
Only pieces specifically described as suitable for outdoor use in their product listing should be placed outside. These are made with synthetic PE rattan, which is weatherproof and UV-resistant. Natural rattan pieces are indoor only — prolonged exposure to moisture, rain, or direct sunlight will cause them to weaken and deteriorate.
Both natural and synthetic rattan wipe clean with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. For natural rattan, keep it away from excess moisture and store indoors. For synthetic rattan garden pieces, a gentle clean with soapy water and a soft brush is ideal. Rattan naturally improves in character over time with light use.
Most pieces require light assembly. Each product listing specifies whether assembly is required and how involved it is. Clear, illustrated instructions are included in every box. No specialist tools are needed — a standard screwdriver is sufficient for most items. Assembly details are also listed in the Dimensions & Materials section of each product page.
We photograph our pieces in natural light to represent colour and texture as accurately as possible. For natural rattan and wood, tonal variation is an inherent characteristic of the material — no two pieces are identical, and subtle differences in grain or weave are a sign of authenticity, not a defect. Screen calibration can also affect how colours appear, but we aim to represent every piece honestly.
